How to celebrate your dog's birthday in Costa Rica

It doesn't take much to give your dog a happy birthday: to them, what matters is being with you. But if you want to make it special, here are the ideas people ask me for most.

A cake made for dogs

The heart of the party. Make sure it's baked with dog-safe ingredients — no chocolate, sugar or xylitol, which are dangerous for them. You can add their name and pick their favourite protein. That candle-blowing moment (you doing the blowing, of course) is the photo of the year.

Invite their friends

A couple of familiar dogs, some cookies to share, and you're set. A party kit gets you the cake, cookies for the guests and even the party hat for photos — all sorted.

Keep it calm

Shade, fresh water and rest breaks. Too many people or too much noise stresses them out; better a few guests and a happy dog. And skip the table scraps — their own treats, made for them, are the safe choice.
